A LYTHAM teenager has been fitted with a pacemaker after she was struck down by a mystery virus while on holiday in Spain.
Sarah Clark, 18, and a finalist in the Miss Blackpool 2000 contest, came down with a mystery illness while in Benidorm with her friends and was kept in a private clinic. She was flown home by air ambulance and taken to hospital where doctors discovered she was suffering from an irregular heartbeat after a virus affected the electrical currents in her body.
Sarah told The Citizen: "I got home on the Thursday, August 24, and went in to hospital the next day. They kept me in until last Friday, September 1, and I had a pacemaker fitted. I was a little embarrassed at first but now I realise it had to be done."
Sarah, pictured, was disappointed at having to miss out on the Miss Blackpool finals, but was thrilled at the support she got. She said: "I am so grateful to all my family and friends, and to the organisers of Miss Blackpool and Brannigans for their kindness."
