RESIDENTS who have staged a 15-month campaign to stop parents from blocking their roads when taking their children to and from a nearby primary school are celebrating the introduction of extra parking restrictions.
Members of the Maryville and Cliftonville Residents Association, Prescot have finally managed to win the battle over parking -- with the help of Councillor John Birchall. The new orders include the prohibition of driving into Cliftonville Road, except for access, and a restriction of waiting order for Maryville Road.
A representative for the residents told the Star: "It is hoped that keeping one side of Maryville free from parking during the stated hours will mean that there is free-flowing traffic, residents will have vehicular access to their homes, and, most importantly, any emergency vehicle will not be held up as has been previously experienced. The new orders also mean that it should be a lot safer for the parents and children who walk to Prescot Primary School."
Now the residents have called for a meeting with police representatives to discuss the need for extra police and traffic wardens to enforce the new regulations.
