A YOUNG driver who crashed his car killing a 15-year-old passenger has been sentenced to two years youth custody.
Preston Crown Court heard that David Wood, 20, had ignored warnings to cut his speed before he lost control on a bend and hit a lamppost. Passenger Matthew Gale of Manor Road, Shevington, Wigan, was thrown from the car and died from multiple injuries.
Wood, of Dickens Road, Coppull, near Chorley, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and was also banned for three years.
The court was told that a hour before last October's crash in Moor Road, Coppull, police had warned him about his driving. Passengers in the car had also asked him to slow down. Defence barrister Nick Kennedy said Wood admitted he had behaved like a fool and a complete idiot, and felt a deep sense of shame.
