THE Dean of Blackburn celebrated a very special occasion on Sunday - and for once, he didn't have to officiate!
For the Very Rev David Frayne, 66, celebrated 40 years in the ministry by receiving a cake from his colleagues at Blackburn Cathedral.
Originally from Surrey, he was ordained in September 1960 at Southwark Cathedral, London, by Bishop Mervyn Stockwood and stayed in that diocese for more than 20 years before moving to Bristol in 1982.
In 1992, the Bishop of Blackburn invited him to become the Provost of the Cathedral.
Earlier this year he became the Dean following changes in Cathedral legislation.
He is married to wife Liz, a primary school teacher and has three grown-up children.
He is pictured with Liz and friend the Rev John Porter.
