THE Bishop of Blackburn the Rt Rev Alan Chesters officially opened a new extension at St Paul's Primary, Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
The extension, which cost around £200,000 includes a classroom, library and offices.
Most of the cash came from a government grant but the school will have to raise £30,000 over the next five years to pay its share.
Headteacher Peter Linley said: "This extension is a tremendous boost for the school.
"We have needed an extension for years and it has made the school look a lot better."
Children let off balloons with their name tags on to mark the opening and the pupil whose balloon is returned from the farthest place will receive a prize.
Mr Linley said they had already had one sent back from Surrey.
