BURNLEY police are about to show language is no barrier in the battle against burglars by distributing anti crime leaflets in Urdu and Punjabi.
The literature will be handed out to people attending mosques in the area.
The campaign follows concerns about an increase in the number of burglaries in Asian households in Daneshouse and Stoneyholme.
Sgt Martin Selway said the houses seemed to have been singled out by burglars in the run-up to Eid.
He added: "A crime is a crime in any language and in the last two months there have been 28 burglaries in and around the Daneshouse area.
"We need the whole community to be aware of this and to know how to help prevent the misery which burglary can cause.
"That is why we are making crime prevention literature available in Urdu and Punjabi as well as English."
Two local officers whose geographical areas include Daneshouse and Stoneyholme will distribute literature at Daneshouse mosque tomorrow.
They also intend to talk to people about the need for anyone who witnesses a crime or sees anyone acting suspiciously to contact local police or call Crimestoppers free and in total confidence on 0800 555111.
