Tyldesley 28 Bury 10 TYLDESLEY RU made it seven consectutive wins with a convincing victory over Bury at a wet and muddy Well Street last Saturday.
The heavy conditions made running rugby near impossible so the early exchanges were confined to both sets of forwards driving the ball down the middle of the park.
Tyldesley used the ball better and two infrigements by the Bury forwards allowed Eddie Wallbank to land a couple of early penalties. Bury responded by ploughing their way up field and scoring the first try of the game wide on the right.
However, Tyldesley extended their lead when again good pressure from the forwards allowed flanker Lee Berrisford to cross the line for a try converted by Wallbank.
The second half saw Tyldesley in a more postive mood with skipper Lee Cunliffe leading from the front. Following a good drive from a lineout close to the Bury line, Cunliffe was on hand to burrow his way through a pile of defenders. Another Wallbank penalty extended the home sides lead before Bury again used the ball well scoring wide on the left wing. With the clock ticking away Tyldesley captilised on Bury failing to clear a long kick and Cunliffe danced his way past four defenders before touching down near the post to give Wallbank a simple conversion.
Outstanding on the day was centre Stewart Manning with some bone crunching tackles and flanker Craig Pulman who worked hard in the pack.
Tomorrow Tyldesley travel to Broughton hoping to maintain their winning run.
Tyldesley's second team travelled to Bury and ran out convincing winners with a 27-0 victory. Tries came from Graham Harrop (2), Shaun Pulman and Brent Broadhurst with Harrop landing two conversions and a penalty.
Tyldesley thirds travelled to Montell firsts and ran in three tries from skipper Ian Pritchard, Mark Greagory and Ben Alder to register a 15-3 win.
The Under 16s entertained neighbours Bolton and despite the poor conditions both sides showed some good touches and plenty of spirit as Tyldesley ran out winners 22-20. Centre Mark Jones ran in two excellent tries and stand off Mickey Dickinson landed a penalty and two conversions to add to a try from No.8 Adrian Court.
