Armed officers raided a house in the Holme Road, Stoneyholme, area of Burnley.
The pre-planned raid yesterday morning was in response to information that a man at the address was in possession of a gun.
Sgt Mick Heyworth said: "The operation was carried out by armed officers and the premises entered after a search warrant was obtained.
"A search was carried out but proved negative."
A man was arrested and taken to Burnley police station where he was questioned.
He was later released without charge.
