A DECISION on which homes will be bulldozed in the Burnley Wood and Accrington Road areas of Burnley will be taken on Wednesday.
Two hundred residents attended meetings last month and gave a clear backing to the clearance of unfit and obsolete homes. Some are expected to be at Burnley Council's housing and community services committee on Wednesday when a decision is expected on which houses will have to come down.
The £6,055,000 housing clearance programme is expected to deal with the demolition of 325 properties. Housing focus areas have been identified in both parts of town and councillors will decide whether the money should be split equally between Burnley Wood and Accrington Road or whether one area should take priority.
The amount available from government SRB6 and housing investment programme funding will only deal with 26 per cent of the properties in the two areas.
Residents have suggested the cleared sites should be used as children's play areas, skateboard parks, green spaces and for new homes.
