NURSERY nurse Raffaella Barbiere swapped Milan for Blackburn when she came to teach local youngsters.

Raffaella was on an exchange visit to Kelsall Avenue Nursery School, which saw teachers Sam Bassett and Gill Booth spend a week at the Play English Bilingual School, in Monza, near Milan, in Italy.

As part of her week, the Blackburn children at the nursery got a flavour of all things Italian, including sampling some local delicacies and learning about how the children in Monza spend their time.

Headteacher Marjorie Taylor, who worked for a week in the Italian nursery last year, said the links between the two countries were beneficial for the youngsters.

She said: "It's lovely for them to learn about Italy. We have looked at the map and have drawn their flag. The children have really enjoyed it."
