David Bateson's promising debut on the Network Q Rally ended in disappointment when the rear suspension of their Volkswagen Polo broke on Saturday's Resolfen stage.

Bateson, from Barrowford, and co-driver Daniel Barritt, from Hapton, had been leading class N1 until Saturday morning.

Alistair Ginley, driving the Boland Motorsport of Barnoldswick Subaru Impreza, shrugged off problems with a sticking throttle and failed power steering to finish 44th overall and 18th in class.

Great Harwood's Clive Molyneux navigated Geoff Fielding home in 56th place and 26th in class, after being delayed by a series of punctures on their Ford Escort Cosworth during the Saturday stages.
