SEVERAL years ago, during a gale, a tree growing on the very steep slope between Feniscowles Memorial Playing Fields and Preston Old Road, Blackburn, crashed down.
Fortunately, the main tree branches became locked in an adjacent tree and after the removal of other branches and debris, the road was soon open to traffic.
But the tree trunk, weighing many tons, is still resting in a precarious position on the sloping ground only yards from the road.
If this was on a building site the Health and Safety would not allow anyone to work until the area was made safe by removing the tree.
It would appear that the general public do not have this safety facility, as children walk past to school and motorists drive by every day.
So could whoever is responsible remove this potential danger, before someone gets seriously injured?
GEOFF GREENING, Kirkstone Avenue, Cherry Tree, Blackburn.
