REGARDING your report "Old Folk Dumped" (LET, November 18) about the closure of the Brooklands care home in Blackburn, may I, as the daughter of one of the residents, give you some real facts?

Firstly, Brooklands is not a nursing home but a residential care home, of a high quality.

Secondly, there were only 11 residents in situ, not 33 when notice of closure was received, giving six weeks notice. This letter went to residents, and if applicable, to families.

It was the late Mr Choudhry who ran Brooklands totally, with the help of carers and a Matron, not his wife.

She was devastated at his untimely demise and has tried her best over the past five months trying to keep the standards up, but living some 60 miles away, it became impossible for her to continue, particularly with her own commitments.

I cannot express my sadness of the closure of Brooklands due to Mr Choudhry's death. Everything was of the best and I trust that people who have lost a loved one will understand the reasons.

I also cannot understand why the press got so involved with this, bringing Jack Straw into the matter.

Most of the 11 residents have now been relocated. My mother is not one of them as yet.

I fully appreciate it is disturbing to have to lose what you think will be your last home. However, I am not young myself and may eventually have to make and take decisions for myself, or perhaps not if I need a nursing home.
