THE man who has been acting head of a Blackburn school has been officially appointed to the position.
David Whyte takes over at St Wilfrid's High School and Technology College after being acting head for the last two years.
Mr Whyte replaces Linda Robinson who retired on health grounds last summer.
Originally from Edinburgh, Mr Whyte began his teaching career in Bristol before taking up teaching posts in the West Country and then Chorley.
He was appointed deputy head at St Wilfrid's in 1989.
Mr Whyte said: "I am obviously delighted and I feel very privileged to be given the responsibility of leading this excellent school into the 21st century.
"I fell very uplifted by the kind words of encouragement from many sources during the last few months.
"With my colleagues I will continue to strive for excellence."
