AFTER hearing Jack Straw asking the public to take more responsibility in the detection of crime, I felt compelled to relate this experience.
Some weeks ago, I became aware of what seemed to be an abandoned car.
I informed the police twice, the second time after it had been vandalised and torched. On this occasion I left my name and address and both times I was told "they would look into it."
The Fire Service was in attendance on the second occasion and the cost of this and the subsequent removal of the car will be paid through the council tax.
Stray dogs are taken to the kennels until the owners collect them.
Why are abandoned cars not put in a compound until the owners collect for a fee.
I am concerned that at no time have I been informed of any progress in police inquiries.
I am aware the police have more urgent things to deal with, but as far as I know this comes under crime detection.
I'm sorry Mr Straw, I am beginning to wonder why I bothered.
W T MILLER (Mr), Coopers Close, Oswaldtwistle.
