NIGHTCLUB customers were quizzed by police in the early hours today, a week after two revellers were gunned down.

Up to 10 uniformed officers from Astley Bridge police station joined hundreds of clubbers outside the Atlantis nightclub in Bolton, the scene of the shooting last Friday at 2.25am.

Two men have appeared in court on charges in connection with the incident but detectives are still looking for the gunman.

The police operation - which ran from late last night through to the early hours - saw officers question customers, as club doormen handed out 'flyers' about the shooting. A special telephone hotline was also manned last night, allowing clubbers to make confidential calls with information about the shooting. Today senior detectives who are leading the hunt, welcomed the help given by club customers.

They are set to sift through any further witness statements from clubbers during the day.

Yesterday a description of the gunman was issued, describing him as white, in his 20s or 30s, heavily built with shaven head and wearing a fleece-type jacket.

He had fired at least eight shots into the crowd of customers and door staff as the club was about to close last week.

And officers have issued descriptions of two cars which could be connected to the shooting.

They are appealing for anyone who saw a black Toyota Celica sports car registration P389THR near the club after the shooting to contact them.

And anyone who saw a silver BMW 523i registration R8JFB near the club or in the town over the last two weeks should also contact police.

Witnesses are asked to contact Astley Bridge CID on 0161 856 5740.
