EAST Lancashire householders are being warned not to run the risk of suffering the misery of burst pipes in their homes this winter.
Poorly insulated pipework in the home can become frozen when the temperature drops and when the pipes thaw they can burst, warns North West Water.
Customer service director Gary Dixon said: "It takes very little effort to insulate pipes, tanks and cisterns.
"Prompt action now could prevent the damage and inconvenience a burst pipe can cause."
North West Water issued three tips to prevent a disaster this weekend:
Know where your stop tap is and that it is working.
Insulate pipes, tanks and cisterns to help delay freezing.
Leave your heating on low or drain the whole system if you go away even if its just for a few days.
There is also a leaflet available which gives advice on preventing burst pipes and also what to do if the worst happens.
