STAN Ternent was happy as Burnley moved back into the top six thanks to Saturday's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
He refuses to get carried away by the Clarets' promotion prospects but believes his side is good enough to stay in the play-off positions.
He added: "We're about 14 points off staying in the First Division and that's where we need to be.
"Five wins would perhaps be enough now and once we can get them then we crack on.
"I've said on many occasions, without putting a dampener on it, I don't think there'll be a problem about the players staying in the division but mathematically we need to achieve that target and once we've done that we'll kick on.
"We like being in the top six, we're used to being in the top six, albeit in another division, but someone has to be there so it might as well be us, and we're good enough."
Ball also believes it's for others to guage Burnley's chances but is happy to be back among the leading pack.
"It's nice to be there," he said. "If you were 10th you'd want to be sixth and if you were sixth you'd rather be second but the league table only counts when the last kick of the ball's been made at the end of the season.
"We've got some big games coming up now and like the gaffer said we've got a few injuries and suspensions so the squad will be tested a little bit. But I think full credit should be given to everybody for the position we're in at this moment in time."
And Ball was delighted to erase the memory of Burnley's recent 5-0 beating at Forest.
"Without saying we were out for revenge, it was nice to get our own back on them," he added.
