NOTTINGHAM Forest manager David Platt was fuming with the penalty decision that brought his side's winning streak to an end at Turf Moor.

Forest had won six of their previous seven games and lost just once away all season before referee Trevor Jones spotted what he thought was a hand-ball in a packed penalty area and awarded the Clarets a 78th-minute spot-kick.

Andy Payton duly tucked it away to clinch a 1-0 win and leave Platt far from happy.

"I have just had a look at the video and if he gives a penalty when you head the ball off the line you're going to struggle at places," said the former England midfielder.

"In every other walk of life you get punished for incompetence but that won't happen in football.

"He gave the penalty for handball against David Prutton. His hand had gone up but the ball came off his head."

Burnley boss Stan Ternent didn't disagree with Platt's view but felt his side had done enough to take all three points and could have had an earlier penalty when Ian Moore was pushed in the back by Chris Bart-Williams.

"That was a blatant penalty and he didn't give that one so perhaps it levelled itself up," said Ternent.

"I've just had a word with Platty and he said he's watched it on the video and said it (the second one) wasn't a penalty. If he says it wasn't a penalty then I would go with that but unfortunately we have to accept it whichever way it is and felt we did deserve to win the match."

Platt thought, however, that a point apiece would have been a fairer outcome.

He added: "It wasn't a quality game but we knew after winning 5-0 against them recently that it wouldn't be a pretty game.

"There were some very good individual battles on the pitch and I thought a draw would have been a fair enough result.

"I am not saying we should have won it, although we had the better chances."
