BLACKBURN Rovers chief executive John Williams today quashed reports suggesting Henning Berg will be sent back to Manchester United at the end of the week.
A story in one of yesterday's national papers claimed Rovers boss Graeme Souness has had to ditch plans to sign Berg permanently because the club cannot afford to meet the Norwegian's wage demands.
But Williams insists the money has not dried up at Ewood.
And, if Souness advises the board to make a bid for the player at a meeting tomorrow, then the club will look to give the manager their full backing.
"I don't know why people keep saying there's a problem with the money," said Williams.
"The board have not yet turned down a single request by Graeme Souness since he has been here.
"Equally, Graeme has also been excellent in terms of the valuations he makes of players.
"So far, we've been able to back everything he has put before us.
"People should remember that we were prepared to pay nearly £5 million for Mettomo.
"But in Graeme we have a man who makes very astute commercial decisions. And, if he thinks a player is not worth a certain amount then he won't pay it."
Berg has one game left before his three month loan move from Manchester United runs out.
And the club will discuss what avenue they want to pursue in the next 24 hours.
"We've got a board meeting tomorrow and one of the things we'll be discussing with the manager is the situation regarding Henning Berg," said Williams.
"Graeme Souness will advise the board on what he considers to be in the best interests of the club.
"And we'll then take it from there."
Rovers' reserves face Liverpool at Morecambe tonight (kick off 7pm).
Rovers' Academy Under 19s beat Manchester City 2-1 at Brockhall on Friday. Marc Richards and Steve Foster scored the goals.
The Under 17s went down 3-2 at Derby -- a result which saw the Rams leapfrog Rovers to go top of the table.
