DISABLED youngster Elizabeth Parry was guest of honour for the opening of a new access ramp at Bury United Reformed Church.
Elizabeth (5), of Fernview Drive, Holcombe Brook, cut the ribbon at the official opening ceremony on Saturday (Dec 2).
The event marked the end of a 12-month refurbishment programme at the Rochdale Road church.
Over the last year important roof repairs have been carried out and new coverings placed over windows to prevent traffic fumes and rain from seeping into the building. Improvements for the disabled have also been made inside the church, with special toilet facilities and an indoor ramp.
Reverend Ruth Wollaston, who said a prayer of blessing following the opening, said: "It has been a very happy day.
"We are pleased to see this major refurbishment complete in time for Christmas.
"In the past we have been greatly embarrassed, having to take coffee to disabled people on the pavement during our church cafe. That will no longer be the case."
