A BURY man is fighting for his life following a violent attack in a Manchester street.
Carl Kingston (20) was set upon in Huxley Avenue, Cheetham Hill, at 3.45pm on Saturday (Dec 2) and is now being treated in Hope Hospital's intensive care unit.
Witnesses told of a desperate chase in the Cheetham Hill area, prior to Mr Kingston, of Hollins Lane, being found unconscious in the street with head and facial injuries.
Two men had earlier been seen chasing a man, matching Mr Kingston's description, both on foot and in a blue saloon car.
Police also want information about a white car, with a damaged windscreen and side windows, seen in the area.
Detective Inspector Rebecca Sutcliffe, who is leading the hunt for Mr Kingston's attackers, said it was still unclear why anyone would want to harm him or why he was in the Cheetham Hill area despite having friends and relatives who live there.
She added: "As far as we are aware he is a respectable young man who works for his father in Bury."
A police spokesman confirmed that Mr Kingston was in a serious but stable condition.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Collyhurst CID on 856 3940.
