THE culprit gave himself up at the police station while police were still at the scene of a vandal attack on a car .
Blackburn magistrates heard that after smashing the rear windscreen in temper, Stephen James Gibbons had gone home, thought about what he had done and then gone to the police station to confess.
And the court heard that had it not been for his admission it was unlikely he would ever have been linked with the incident.
Gibbons, 18, of Skelshaw Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to damaging the rear windscreen of a car belonging to Sajir Ahmed. He was granted a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay £55 costs.
Claire Fanning, prosecuting, said Mr Ahmed had left his car outside his home in Whitendale Crescent at 11pm.
Gibbons told police he had argued with his parents who he had met at a working men's club after work. He had struck out in temper.
Leslie Halliwell, defending, said Gibbons had lashed out at the nearest thing.
