PROMOTED jointly by Clitheroe and Furness motor clubs, the Grizedale Stages has an enviable reputation as one of the best-organised club events on the British calendar.

The attraction of 43 competitive miles in Grizedale lured a full-house entry of over 105 cars, with former British champion David Higgins, BTRDA and ANCRO regulars Steve Petch, Ian Joel, Martin Meadows and Ben Briant among the starters.

And that reputation was further enhanced with the arrival of the Barbados national champion, Nathan Naihe, for his first-ever rally on UK soil.

"Nathan had come over to watch the Network Q Rally, like what he saw, and decided to try and event before he went returned home," explained Liz Daly, publicity officer.

"On the advice of Pentii Airikkala, the former British champion and RAC winner, he tried for a late entry on the Grizedale and we were happy to accommodate him. The stages are very different to the ones in Barbados, but he was very impressed and has promised to come back for another crack next year.

"Thanks to the efforts of the organisers, particularly Dave Calvert and his team who produced the results within 20 minutes of the finish, the Grizedale looks set for a very bright future."
