COUNCILLORS have met to discuss next year's festival season.
Following last year's mix up over Summerbreeze and the spectacular flops at the end of the season, members decided to come up with new ideas as well as stick by old favourites. The Festival of Light and Water, the Georgian Festival, the Fireworks Spectacular and Worldbeat will be staged next year as normal but with reduced funding and the idea of a Festival of Comedy has been mooted. A brass band festival could tie in with the existing Streetbands Festival and a more traditional Seaside Festival be organised for Morecambe.
The council set aside £150,000 for next year's festivals with instructions to officers to also seek sponsorship.
