WORKERS at a Morecambe plastic firm fear they could be made redundant after Christmas.

Moll Industries, which is known locally as Souplex, have told workers that they will be closing their compression activities at Westgate and they will be relocating to Northgate.

And managing director Brian Hall has not ruled out some job losses.

One worker who called The Citizen said: "This has really put a black cloud over everything. Everyone is wondering whether they'll have a job in the new year. It's a pretty miserable way to spend your Christmas."

In a notice to workers he said: "Due to the overall demise of the UK compression market and the lack of new high volume opportunities in the UK compression market, Moll Industries is to reduce its thermostat capabilities. Moll believes opportunities still exist with existing and potential new customers in this sector. Therefore we regret the company has no option but to announce the closure of its compression activities at Westgate. Wherever possible, personnel will be relocated at Northgate but we have to advise you of the possibility of some redundancies in the New Year."

The Westgate site will be sold and the move to Northgate is expected to have taken place by March 2001. Everyone is wondering whether they'll have a job in the ne
