Bank Quay Bulls 12 Haydock 40
HAYDOCK progressed to the final of the Lancashire Cup for the second year in succession but were given a tough time by Warrington side Bank Quay who played well above their Division Four status.
The Yickers started strongly with Marsh, Haughey and Hill to the fore but it was 15 minutes before they opened the scoring when, after a good run by Bloor, Cahalin went over from acting half-back to score.
Ireland added the conversion and a penalty to make it 8-0 and then Tickle swooped for an interception and raced 70 yards to touch down. Ireland again converted to make it 14-0 but the Bulls roared back before the interval with two unconverted tries to leave the game delicately balanced at 14-8 at half-time.
Haydock again started strongly after the break with Bloor, O'Garra and Marsh running the show.
And they increased their lead five minutes into the second period when Marsh went over after good work by Bloor and Boland, Ireland's conversion making it 20-8.
But back came the Bulls again and good passing created an overlap for them to score in the corner to make it 20-12 after 55 minutes.
In the final quarter though Haydock's greater experience and fitness begand to tell and they added a further 20 points without reply to finally see off the plucky Bank Quay side.
Tickle scored his second try after good work by O'Garra and then Marsh burst through for his second from a pass by Boland. Ireland added both goals.
Good passing paved the way for Haughey to make it 36-12 and then Marsh and Ireland paved the way for Tickle to complete his hat-trick in the closing minutes
Outstanding for Haydock were Marsh, Bloor, Tickle, O'Garra, Boland and Haughey.
