Widnes St Maries 38 Blackbrook Bulldogs 18

BROOK'S hopes of progressing in this year's Challenge Cup were dashed by a powerful second-half show by the NWCL Premier Division side led by Tongan centre Hamon Tuaavo.

There was little to choose between the sides in the first half with Maries leading 18-12 at the interval.

After the break though the homesters stepped up a gear to book their place in the second round.

The Bulldogs' tries came from father-and-son Ste and Andy Shaw, and stand-off Ian Callaghan who also added three goals.

West Hull u/18s 28 Blackbrook Bulldogs 12

WITH only 13 players available, Brook stood up well to a strong West Hull side, matching them until an injury to Junction Fencing man-of-the-match Kevin Picton left them short and they conceded three late tries.

Earlier, a Mark Leonard try and a fine Alan Broderick solo effort had left Brook trailing 8-12 at the interval, before Darren Woods levelled the scores following a pin-point kick by Kevin Picton.

This was a good team effort.

Rylands u/16s 14 Blackbrook Royals 36

Bell and Barrel man-of-the-match, stand-off Gaz Langley notched a personal tally of 20 points with four tries and two goals as Royals produced an excellent team display.

Hamilton, Dobson, Burrows and Cheetham were Royals' other try-scorers with Dougdale also worthy of mention.

Royals u/15s 8 Ince St Williams 4

After a flying start in which they scored two good tries through wingers Thomas Cunningham and Kelvin Walkden, Royals squandered too much possession and in the end were grateful for a Danny Bibby interception to save the game.

Craig Littler, Andy Brown, Matty Foley and debutant Danny Bathgate were Royals stand-out performers.

Waterhead u/14s 3 Royals 4

Royals dug deep to overcome a spirited Waterhead outfit in an error-strewn, defence-dominated game.

Dane Shepherd got the all-important try, Simon Dixon collected the North West Timber Treatment players' player award and Joey Dixon was the Makerfield Timber man-of-the-match.

Royals u/13s 28 Leigh East 0

Royals u/10s 24 Leigh East 12

An excellent game of rugby ended with Royals maintaining their outstanding run. With both sides prepared to give the ball plenty of air and wingers scoring tries, this was a fine advert for junior rugby.

Mayfield u/9s 4 Royals 34

Nichols Foods man-of-the-match Jonathan Travena led the way with a hat-trick as Royals scored a comfortable victory.

Other tries came from rapidly-improving Joshua Owen, Dean Craven, Daniel Craven, Nathan Goodwin and Ryan Gumley.

Leigh East u/7s 32 Royals 20

Royals' tries came from Timpsons man of the match Ryan Klemp (2), top tackler Jonathan Ford, Martin Slater and Craig Davies, while Jack Jones also impressed.
