Morley 31 Liverpool St Helens 24 LIVERPOOL St Helens were the architects of their own downfall, dominating the game for major periods, particularly in the first half, only to let themselves down with basic errors in touch kicking and handling.
After sharing early penalties, LSH went behind to a soft try gifted to Morley inside the first 15 minutes.
The visitors then took command for the remainder of the half with Simon Worsley kicking two penalties and converting a smartly-taken try scored by the ever-busy Steve Cook.
With a 16-8 lead and half-time looming, LSH looked in control, despite the loss of centre Sean Casey with a hamstring injury. However, deep into first-half injury time they inexplicably chose to run a penalty from their own half, lost possession and Morley gladly opened the second Advent Calendar door of the afternoon.
LSH's narrow half-time lead of three points was immediately overtaken on the restart when Morley second-row Mark Burrows ploughed over for his second, and his side' third try.
And worse was to come 10 minutes later when winger Eddie Hutchinson broke through the LSH defence to score under the posts.
ties the game went into the last 10 minutes with Morley leading 31-19. The Moss Lane men are full of endeavour this season and rallied in the closing stages with winger Danny Jones finishing off the move of the afternoon with a fine try in the corner.
It was, however, too little too late, and despite the sustained efforts of Mjike Tchakoute and the tireless tackling of Aussie Darren Crilly the afternoon ended in disappointment for LSH.
Nuneaton, fresh from victory over leaders Doncaster, are Saturday' visitors to Moss Lane (kick-off 2.30pm) when it is hoped that LSH can add the necessary maturity and know-how to their undoubted enthusiasm and effort.
