I READ with deep regret about the name of The Bull and Butcher pub in Burnley being changed to the Slaughtered Lamb (LET, December 11).
My husband was a great-great grandson of the John Brown who owned the pub in 1835.
If the new owners should take an afternoon off and go and visit his grave by the church door in Bolton by Bowland, they will see his inscription reads: "John Brown of The Bull and Butcher , Burnley."
He was obviously very proud to be associated with such an old and distinguished pub.
I hope the new people will reconsider and change the name back. They have upset so many people connected with it and I know my husband would turn over in his grave if he knew.
O BROWN (Mrs), York Road, Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire.
