THE public have around one month left to air their views over the proposed merger of two Manchester NHS Trusts.

Health chiefs believe substantial savings would be made by the merger of Manchester Children's Hospitals NHS Trust and Central Manchester Healthcare Trust, with the extra money being re-invested into direct patient care.

The three-month public consultation period is due to end on February 5 2001.

The new trust would be responsible for services which are presently provided at Manchester Royal Infirmary, St Mary's Hospital, University Dental Hospital of Manchester, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and Booth Hall Children's Hospital.

Details of the proposals can be found on the internet at www.doh.gov.uk/
