WOULD-BE civic champions are needed to help improve our local environment -- and they can win awards to help them get started.
Run by the Civic Trust, the Civic Champions award scheme helps people who want to run projects for others, ranging from self-build homes for the unemployed to better parks and exhibitions for the deaf and blind.
Anyone who has at least six months part-time volunteering experience and a good idea for their community can apply.
The 45 winners will receive training in marketing, fundraising and team-building and will also be given a grant to help get them started.
Ian Jones, Civic Champions co-ordinator, said: "These people are an inspiration to us all. They come to us with enthusiasm and an idea -- and we help make their plans a reality."
Anyone who would like to be considered for an award can call 0151 709 1969 or send a postcard requesting an application form to Civic Champions, The Civic Trust, FREEPOST, 6th floor, The View, Gostins Building, 32/36 Hanover Street, Liverpool, L1 4LN.
