I WRITE in reply to 'confused motorist' (Dear Star, December 21) regarding the ability to purchase alcohol from a petrol filling station in West End Road, Haydock.
I cannot see what difference it makes where alcohol is purchased as long as it is not consumed while in charge of a motor vehicle. Anyone can drive to an off-licence or supermarket and buy alcohol so why should he/she think that just because it is purchased from a garage the should be more likely to drink while driving?
I have certainly never bought alcohol then immediately got in my car with the intention of drinking it.
So why should I start now just because I can buy it when I go for petrol?
Confused motorist you are missing the message of the campaign completely.
Sober motorist (name and address supplied).
