STRAIGHT-TALKING Clarets boss Stan Ternent won't be driven away from Burnley by the Turf Moor boo-boys.
Ternent has urged the supporters to lay off his players on the back of a five-match losing streak.
And if the critics direct their frustration at Ternent it will be like water off a duck's back to the manager.
"I won't roll over. They won't hound me out," he insisted.
Matters reached a head with Monday's 2-1 home defeat to Wolves when the decisions to replace Ian Moore and then subsequently send on Ronnie Jepson were booed by a section of the fans.
Ternent was furious at that and the subsequent suggestion that it was his tactics that were being questioned as he looked to put the record straight before drawing a line under the affair today.
He added: "If they don't like the tactics, too bad. They haven't done us too badly so far.
"I am a Burnley lad. It's my adopted home and I was ashamed to be a Burnley fan on Monday.
"If they want the club to do well then get behind us, never mind booing. "If they want to boo me let them do it but it affected Ronnie Jepson and it affects other players.
"Supporters always have a right but let them look at the full picture.
"And what about the chairman ? The money he has spent to save the club and they are booing him. I know what I would be thinking if I was him."
There's no dispute that Burnley have hit an untimely slump but the overall situation is still a healthy one.
In some ways Clarets made a rod for their own back by claiming a top-six place so early in a season in which security was always the number one target.
And Ternent is clearly irked that the remarkable progress the Clarets have made in two-and-a-seasons is being lost in a dodgy spell of results.
He added: "Let's look at the bottom line. When I came to the club it was a shambles. In the first season we avoided relegation then we had a promotion and now we're in the top ten of the First Division.
"When I came to the club there was one chairman about to go and we were on the brink of a disaster. We're now 10th in the First Division and they're still booing. It's about time they got behind us.
"We had 17 players on Monday with five not available. We are 10th and looking at the play-offs but we are still in our infancy and we are trying to put the place right."
And Ternent insists he will always be ready to explain his actions to the club's loyal fans.
"It's the true supporters I'm concerned about.
