I FEEL Stan Ternent deserves a lot of credit for his services to the game of football.
Not only will this man go down in Burnley folklore for his single-minded efforts to put our football team back on the map, but he worked so hard to make the Blackburn derby one to remember for the right reasons.
Any true Claret fan totally condemns the behaviour of a mindless minority.
Stan did everything he could to make Blackburn fans feel welcome at Turf Moor.
He orchestrated a press conference with the opposition manager and players, and went further than anyone else to calm tempers down on the pitch when things got out of hand. All this from a man whose only real responsibility is the Burnley team!
I feel his work to make this a day for the real fans has gone unnoticed by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and it would be nice to see a Rovers' fan give something Claret and Blue a bit of credit for once in a lifetime.
Only by doing this will be ever begin to rid the game of the extremism and hatred which exists on both sides of the fence.
Also, thanks Stan and Sam and all the Burnley players for the best year ever in the 25 I have followed Burnley FC.
We are proud of you (just 10 defeats in the whole of Y2K) for giving us the backbone we have for so long lacked. It has been a brilliant year -- promotion, seeing Wrighty, consolidation in a higher league.
We may "get knocked down" but we "get up again" and no-one will "ever keep us down."
ANDREW EVANS, Burnley Road, Colne.
