A LEYLAND couple who spent a year on a remote Scottish island as part of the BBC documentary Castaway 2000 are staying with friends in Glasgow before returning home.
Gwyneth and Patrick Murphy left the windswept island of Taransay, off the coast of Scotland, on New Year's Day after completing their year long challenge.
Since ariving on the island in January last year the adventurous couple along with other islanders have had to grow their own food, rear animals and generate their own source of power.
But the isolated location proved to be too much for some of the Castaways after seven of the original 36 -- including a family of four -- left the island before the year was out.
Many of the Castaways have opted not to return to the life they left behind 12-months ago -- although children at Lever House Lane Primary School, in Farington, Leyland, are eager to see the return of welfare assistant Gwyneth who has to cook them up a tasty Taransay
