THREATS to withdraw bus services between Lancaster and Morecambe have been withdrawn following complaints from the public and MP Geraldine Smith.
"It just goes to show that people can make the difference if they kick up a fuss," said the MP this week after Stagecoach agreed to continue the number 3 and 4 services via Torrisholme Road.
Stagecoach had wanted to suspend the service following growing concerns about double decker buses crashing into the low railway bridge on Torrisholme Road. Geraldine said: "I'm delighted they have listened to our concerns. It would have been a devastating blow if this popular and well used service had been stopped. Stagecoach have also promised to instigate new internal procedures to minimise the risk of double deckers being inadvertently driven via Torrisholme Road and the county council is investigating placing warnings on the bridge approach."
