AS if Bury didn't have enough money problems, they are now having to spend extra resources on the toilets, writes STEVE CANAVAN.
Vandalism in the away supporters loos is commonplace, but even the home toilets in the South and Main Stand were damaged during the New Year's Day draw with Rotherham.
Chairman Terry Robinson estimates that it will cost around £450 to repair the vandalism, which is an extra drain on the club's already dwindling cash flow.
"It is something that's happening every week," said Robinson.
"The water pipes were ripped off the wall in the away toilets and the lagging was damaged among other things.
"Even the toilets in the home end are often vandalised. It costs us because we have to pay two people to go around and put everything right."
Ironically, it was Shakers fans themselves who recently came under fire in a BBC documentary about Millwall FC. The programme showed their Greek chairman Theo Paphitis criticising the Bury fans for causing damage in a toilet.
"What happened at Millwall was on TV, everyone saw it and it was bad publicity for our club. But it isn't really very fair because that goes on in the away end at Gigg Lane week after week," added Robinson.
"Sixteen seats were damaged during the Rotherham match as well so it all adds up."
With the club losing money each week it needs every penny it can just to pay the wages. Let's hope the Cambridge fans -- and some Shakers supporters -- are listening.
