ONE must feel sorry for Nigel Evans, the Ribble Valley Tory MP, for being attacked in his Swansea tobacco and liquor store, though he spoils it with his "law 'n order" rant in blaming Home Secretary Jack Straw for his unfortunate experience (LET, December 28).
This desperate Tory propaganda fails to mention that in their 18 years, crime doubled (and robbery increased four times) -- a consequence, one wonders, of Mrs Thatcher's dogma that "There is no such thing as society."
Nigel has a thing about Jack Straw's ministerial Jaguar which he mentions three times. This is another current Tory barb -- as in "Two Jags Prescott." But did Nigel not also drive a Jaguar when the MP's car allowance for this "gas guzzler" was 74p a mile?
