LEIGH Centurions' new stand-off sensation Simon Svabic is out of Sunday's trip to Chorley Lynx - and he's be no means certain to be fit for the showdown with unbeaten Oldham the following week.

Svabic, who has started the season in great style with two tries, 18 goals and two drop goals so far, damaged a knee against Swinton on New Years Day.

But fears that he had suffered some long-term damage have been quickly removed by head coach Paul Terzis.

"It's only minor, but it could take a week or two for it to settle down," confirmed Terzis.

Svabic now joins Paul Norman and Dave Ingram on the sidelines but, because of the depth of Leigh's squad, there is no sign of panic at Hilton Park.

Pack man Norman picked up a dislocated finger and chipped knuckle against Swinton and will be missing for at least another week while winger Dave Ingram, who jarred his shoulder at Widnes, will be sidelined for some time yet.

"After going a couple of games without any injuries at all, we've now picked up three in the last two matches," says Terzis. "That's just the reason why I wanted to build a stronger and bigger squad than last year to cover for any eventuality."

The Hilton Park boss has still to declare who will take Savibic's stand-off role but Kieron Purtill and Willie Swann, who both figured in the Alliance side at Featherstone last night are well in the frame.

"I could opt for either," admits Terzis. "Then there's Radney Bowker or John Duffy. I could even put Adam Bristow in there, so I've got plenty of options."

But one man who will be back in the team is Tim Street who was rested for the Swinton game.

"At this stage of the season I have the luxury of being able to rotate and rest players. They all know that every player is not going to play in every game. But Tim will be back at Chorley."

Despite Chorley's lowly position - three defeats in three games and second bottom - Leigh won't be taking Sunday's game at Victory Park lightly.

"We'll be going there to do a professional job. We'll concentrate on getting the defensive side of our game right first to give us the platform to launch our attacks.

"Chorley are an improving side, let's not forget that. They've recruited one or two useful players in Ian Talbot from Dewsbury and Stuart Fisher from Wigan and have former Leigh players Graham Taberner, Dean Conway and Dale Christy in their side. They'll want to do well."
