A NEW book could soon be launched to remember war heroes.

An appeal from members of Chipping Local History Society for information on the village's men who served in the First and Second World Wars was so successful it may lead to a local history book being compiled in their memory.

In years to come, Wilfrid Blezard, Major Rhodes, Harry Crane, Ernest Kenyon, Fred Ellison, John James Dobson, P E Davies, Richard Edward Duckworth, Giles Burton, James Irving Walmsley and John Bleasdale will all be remembered that much better.

However, further details about these men would be appreciated. The history society would also like details about four more men who served in the 1914-18 war.

They are Chipping man Pte Henry Coulthurst, of the King's Own, and Whitewell men George Ashbourne, 11th Cheshires, who died near Bailleul, France, on June 10, 1917; John Carr, 1st Coldstream Guards, killed near Ypres on October 14, 1917; and Joseph Gardener, Royal Garrison Artillery (or Royal Field Artillery).
