CRIMEBUSTER Kathryn Hogan is special in more ways than one.
The 24-year-old not only works for Greater Manchester Police in the Clayton Brook Communications Suite but she spends the majority of her free time as a Special Constable fighting crime and disorder in Bury.
And her enthusiasm and dedication to her voluntary job, which began in June 1995, has earned the "hobby bobby" a top police award, The Magnall Shield.
The trophy, in memory of special constable Dave Magnall who died after a short illness in the 1980s, is awarded annually to a voluntary police officer for outstanding service.
Kathryn is pictured receiving her trophy from Bury police commander Chief Superintedent Phil Hollowood while watching (back) are the parents of David Magnall, Derek and Jessie and the Special's divisional commandant, Roy Smith (centre).
Mr Smith said: "Kathryn is always available for duties and has completed hundreds of hours on patrol.
"She remains enthusiastic and is devoted to the Special Constabulary. She is a worthy recipient of the award."
