WHAT a brave mum Helen Jeffries is. The 39-year-old mother of CJD's youngest victim delivered a moving alternative Christmas message on Channel 4 -- in opposition to the Queen.
Helen, from Wigan, paid tribute to her 14-year-old daughter Zoe, who lost her battle against the horrifying human form of "mad cow disease" in October.
The mum of four, who allowed the last days of her daughter's life to be filmed told viewers: "I feel as if someone killed my child and I want to know who. I lie awake thinking of what politicians have done to my daughter and I wonder if they can sleep."
What Helen and her family must have gone through last year must be beyond belief. It makes niggling troubles and worries pale into insignificance.
I hope in 2001 she finds some answers -- and that the New Year will ease the suffering. AT last I've found out what the Dublya stands for in George Bush's name -- it's Walker. And thanks to those of you who made the effort to let me know, especially Mr Moffatt who took the trouble to come into the office!
It's not exactly a world shattering discovery, but I found the constant use of it, and not knowing what it stood for, most irritating. I can't be the only one.
