IN response to the remarks of the lady who gave a beggar a pound and apparently was furious when she later saw him in a pub in Burnley, clean-shaven and having a pint (Letters, December 28), my reply is: good luck to him.

What is he supposed to do with the pittance that he gets? Save it?

If he has to beg for money, his self-esteem must be on the floor. You never know what life throws at you and if the lady ever has to beg for money, it would be interesting to see what she would do with the few quid given to her.
