WALT Meadows (Letters, January 1) suggests that I need a dictionary because I equate 'worst' taxation with 'highest' taxation.

It is he who needs a dictionary because 'worst' taxation can't be 'lowest' taxation, or have things changed since I was in school?

I am getting on in years, but I can't remember suffering under a Labour government, but had plenty under Mrs Thatcher and company.

I would also say to Mr Meadows that there are plenty of like-minded voters in the country and am happy to be counted with them.

My hope is that we keep this excellent Labour government and not leap into the arms of the Tory Party right wing and hangers-on such as the Countryside Alliance and others.
