I WAS saddened to read that Blackburn skaters and their coaches were to move to Ayr where they have got a better deal (LET, January 5).
In 1998, Blackburn Skating School held their first open competitions. People donated cups and trophies and they had high hopes that it would become a 'looked forward to' annual event.
Last year, they had to scrap it because of lack of funds and the high cost of ice time and lack of support.
We have a great rink of Olympic size and many good up and coming skaters who should be encouraged, and good coaches.
Parents of talented youngsters already have to make many sacrifices to give them the chance they deserve.
It's no wonder we are lagging behind other countries. Come on, Blackburn, let's not lose any more skaters like Alan Street.
