A MOTHER-of-three was celebrating another stroke of luck this week after being told she can have the shower she desperately needed.

Yolanda Hillman, who has two disabled children aged 12 and 10 and a six-year-old, has been promised a shower by Blackburn with Darwen council, months after she first applied for one.

Yolanda has also been told her home in Hareden Brook Close, Blackburn, will be modified to make it safer for the children.

Christian, aged nine, is partially sighted and deaf with mobility problems and Kylie, aged 12, is also partially deaf. They both have learning difficulties and behavioural problems.

Both suffer from a disorder inherited from their father Neil, who has mild disabilities.

Yolanda said Christian was becoming too big to lift in and out of the bath, especially as she has had several recent operations.

Communicare occupational therapists agreed she should have a shower put in during the next few weeks and have also offered to put in banisters along the stairways and build up safety rails on the landing.

She said: "I am so pleased because as he is getting heavier it has it has been a real strain trying to bathe him. The house will be a lot safer for the children too."

After the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's first story about the family, £400 was left in an envelope at our Darwen office by a woman who did not give her name.

At the time, Yolanda claimed she had asked social workers for temporary help to look after her two disabled children and been told to give them up if she couldn't cope.

Yolanda said she had spent the money on school coats and shoes for all three children. She also bought a quilt cover and quilt for Kylie, a Steps CD and some clothes.

Christian was given a remote control car, clothes, bedding and a computer game, and Shauna received three Tweenie dolls, bedding and clothes.

Yolanda said: "I can't thank whoever gave me the money enough. The children are so pleased with all their new things."
