LANCASTER CITY 5 ACCRINGTON STANLEY 0

STANLEY crashed out of the Lancashire Marsden Challenge Trophy in one of their worst performances under John Coleman's managership.

To add insult to injury they ended the game with only 10 men following the second half dismissal of recent buy Simon Carden.

With goalkeeper Jamie Speare suspended, reserve keeper Bobby Harris took over and he was quickly called into action making a brave save at the feet of Brian Butler in the second minute.

Carden was shown a yellow card on 12 minutes for a bad challenge on former Rochdale player Jimmy Graham which saw the game held up for three minutes.

Lancaster went ahead on 21 minutes as Harris failed to come out and collect an inswinging corner by Graham and another former Spotland player Dean Martin headed home.

There was a six minute stoppage when Jonathan Smith fouled City goalkeeper Mark Thornley, who eventually had to leave the field and was replaced by substitute keeper Cyril Sharrock .

On 41 minutes a Graham free kick was met by a superb first time shot by Phil Brown that gave Harris no chance of saving as City increased their lead.

Worse was to follow 10 minutes after the break as a brilliant four-man Lancaster move ended with highly rated striker Chris Ward heading in the third goal. Five minutes later Ward got on the end of a deep cross by former Chorley player Colin Potts and his header skimmed the top of the crossbar.

A rear Stanley attack came on 65 minutes as Jay Flannery got in a header that Sharrock did well to save. Carden received his second yellow card on 75 minutes for a rash tackle on Butler as Stanley went down to 10 men. Lancaster took full advantage with Potts firing home a deflected shot to make it 4-0 on 84 minutes.

A minute from time Potts, unmarked, scored his second goal to complete a miserable night for Stanley.
