VILLAGERS are putting up a reward for information leading to the identity of the killers of their pot-bellied pig.

Squeak, a Vietnamese pig, was attacked with a wooden stake in a barn at Pendle Heritage Centre and people in Barrowford were so shocked they have clubbed together to put up a reward.

They are offering £100 for information leading to a conviction for the killing.

Posters asking for information about Squeak's killers have also been put in shop windows in the village and a collection box to raise money for security for the barn has been placed in Barrowford Sub-Post Office, in Gisburn Road.

Organiser of the campaign Cath Collis Tattersall, of Pasture Lane, said: "The poster asks for information or the identity of the sick person or persons who destroyed the very soul of a tiny part of Lancashire. Response to his death has been unbelievable and village people are devastated. The people of the village put up the reward and donations are flooding in. "

Campaigners hope to raise enough money to install security at the barn such as a video camera.

Cath added: "Two people have rung to say they know who did it, but they are too afraid to say. Something has got to be done before something else happens." Squeak was brought to Pendle Heritage Centre a few years ago after he was found wandering the streets of Burnley.

Police investigations are continuing and anyone with information can contact Cath on 01282 618826.
