A WAVE of concern has hit workers at BAE Systems this week after an announcement on Wednesday (January 10) that more job losses were on the cards due to falling sales of the Hawk jet.
The aerospace company, based in Warton and Samlesbury, is blaming the latest round of job cuts on a shortfall in the amount of orders expected for the jet trainer aircraft.
There has also been a delay to the Nimrod programme -- an RAF maritime patrol craft -- and a general drop in orders from the Ministry of Defence.
Andy Bunce, communications manager at BAE Systems, said the company had more resources than it required and a massive operational review has revealed drastic action is needed to combat the effects of falling sales and orders.
